King’s pathway – Camino del Rey

El Caminito del Rey (English: The King’s little pathway) is a walkway, now fallen into disrepair, pinned along the steep walls of a narrow gorge in El Chorro, near Alora in the province of Malaga, Spain. The name is often shortened to Camino del Rey (English: King’s pathway).

The Caminito del Rey is a 3km long, narrow trail along the gorge of the “Gaitanes. The name he gave the King Alphonso XIII during the work on the dam Del Guadalhorce.According to legend, have been built the way for Alphonso to go through the canyon to the dam and the reservoir. More likely would be, however, that this path has been created in order to provide through the ravines leading water management and control.

Whether Alphonso has ever walked the 3km itself, seems just as concerned honors. In some parts of the Camino is just a meter wide, 100 meters high and good – no railings!

To visit the Camino del Rey, there are two arrival options.Either by car or by train. The local government closed both entrances of the path after two fatal accidents in 1999 and 2000. Pathway should be reopen in 2014 after three years restoration-plan.
