The state of Jharkhand came in to existence on 15th of November 2000. On the eastern extremities of the Vindhaya Hills, at the northern fringes of the Deccan, lie and forested hills, and escarpments of the rugged. The state of Jharkhand came in to existence on 15th of November 2000. This part of the erstwhile state Bihar should was famous for its rich mineral resources.

Jharkhand is famous for its rich mineral resources like Uranium, Mica, Bauxite, Granite, Gold, Silver, Graphite, Magnetite, Dolomite, Fireclay, Quartz, Fieldspar, Coal (32% of India), Iron, Copper (25%of India) etc. Forests and woodlands occupy more than 29% of the state which is amongst the highest in India.

Hazaribagh
The name implies 'a thousand gardens'. Since long it is a renowned health resort for its excellent climate and magnificent sceneries all around. Parasnath Temple is situated on a hillock close by, where 23 out of 24 Jain prophets are believed to have attained salvation.

Betla National Park & Palamu
This is one of the prime tourist attractions in Jharkhand. The national park is replete with tigers, panthers, elephants, dear and many other animals as well as a few waterfalls and hot springs. In Palamu it has a Tiger Reserve.

Netarhat
156kms from Ranchi, this beautiful hill station promises a perfect solitude and offers stunning views of sunrise and sunset.

Lodh Falls
61kms from Netarhat, it is one of the biggest water falls of Jharkhand where water tumbles down from a height of 468 feet.

Hundru Falls
The River Suwarnarekha cascades down from an altitude of 320 feet. In the monsoons the location becomes more spectacular.

Topchanchi Lake
in the midst of green hills and forests, the artificial lake is 37kms away from Dhanbad and a beautiful picnic spot.

Baidyanath Dham (Deoghar)
In the district of Santhal Parganas, Deoghar is a significant pilgrimage centre for the Hindus. There is a temple of Lord Shiva here.

Apart from the above mentioned ones, other tourist attractions in Jharkhand include: Tagore Hill, Kanke Dam and Jagannath Temple, Maithon and Panchet Dams, Rajrappa, Urwan Tourist Complex, Dassam and Jonha Falls and cities like Ranchi, Jamshedpur and Bokaro.
FAIRS & FESTIVALS

Known for its rich and diverse tribal culture, the state of Jharkhand celebrate a number of fairs and festivals round the year. Apart for this, the cattle play an important role in the fairs and festivals of Jharkhand. Several big cattle fairs are organized in the state, where sale and purchase of cattle take place. Kunda Mela (Pratappur) is one of the major cattle fairs of Jharkhand and it is held at the time of Phalgun Shivratri. Chatra Mela is another major festival of the state and it is also a cattle fair held during the time of Durga Puja.

Some of the important fairs and festival of Jharkhand include Barura Sharif, Bhadli Mela Itkhori, Kolhaiya Mela Chatra, Kunda Mela Pratappur, Lawalong Mela, Sangat, Tutilawa Mela Simaria, Chatra Mela, Belgada Mela Simaria, Rabda Sharif, Kolhua Mela Hunterganj and Kundri Mela Chatra. In addition to these, people of different religions celebrate festivals such as Eid-ul-Fitr, Eid-ul-Azha, Christmas, Holi, Deepwali and Dussehra.


WILDLIFE

Palamu Tiger Reserve
Lying along the northern edge of the Chota Nagpur Plateau, the Palamau Tiger Reserve has an area of 1026 sq. km.
Jharkhand's climate is tropical in nature with hot and humid summers and cold winters. The climate of the state varies from one region to another region. Some parts of Jharkhand such as Ranchi, Netarhat and Parasanth enjoy a pleasant climate during the summers.

The summer season commences early in the month of April and comes to an end by mid-June.

Soon after the summers, the rainy season begins and it continues till the end of September.

The winter season starts in the month of November and comes to an end by February.
By Air:
Regular Indian Airlines services directly connects Ranchi with Patna and New Delhi.

By Railway:
It is very well connected with major cities of country and falls on South Eastern Railways. Ranchi is a junction of N.H. 23 and 33, by road.

By Road:
Ranchi is situated on National Highway No. 23 & 33 and there are nets of good roads around it. Ranchi is directly connected by regular bus services with all the main places in the state and also outside the state.
